An early goal was all the Beavers needed at they slipped past Lakota West in the Regional finals on Saturday, 1-0. Check out this Dayton Daily News article for more detailed information (although I believe Alex Gill played in goal for the Beavers).
The boys will play Olentangy Liberty on Tuesday night in the State semi-finals.
The boys varsity advanced to the Regional finals, defeating St. Xavier in penalty kicks last night. The Regional finals will be at Bellbrook High School on Saturday against Lakota West, with the winner advancing to the State semi-finals.
Check out all the details in the Dayton Daily News.
The Reserve B team traveled to Columbus Oct 1′st to play powerhouse Olentangy Orange in a contest better suited for the pool. It is apparent the host team was playing the game due to the fact that BHS traveled 90 mins. to get there. The pitch was left a muddy mess when the contest was over. Creek netted two goals in the win and now stand at 9 – 1 – 1 for the season.
Soccer boils down to scoring goals for, and eliminating scores against. The 2011 Reserve Men’s team is doing just that. The team traveled to Centerville Wed. night and placed their undefeated season on the line. If you arrived late you missed seeing Justin Moran find the back of the net for an early 1 – 0 lead. This hard fought match was everything you would expect from these two GWOC power house programs. It appeared that Beavercreek’s strong bench and training is paying dividends. They simply meet every attack, then counter attack with speed and determination.
In a battle of two very strong soccer programs Beavercreek edged Mason 2-0 in the Monday night contest. Beavercreek scored off a corner kick with less than 5 minutes remaining in the game. Sophmore Detty Conner settled the ball and laced it far side into the net. Mason continued to attack trying to level the score, but aggressive play led to two in-direct kicks. Jake Kleinhans put the second attempt pass the diving goalie putting the Beavers up 2-0. The team travels Wed to Centerville a foe they will meet several times in their career at Beavercreek.
The girls varsity defeated cross-town rival Carroll on Saturday by a score of 7-1. Leading the way for the Lady Beavers were Natalie Sedlock with three goals, and Erin Gill with three assists. Lexie Ulrich added two goals. Micaela Powers added a goal and an assist, while Morgan Albers closed out the scoring, assisted by Erin Belka.
The ladies are currently the top-ranked team in the Miami Valley and will face the second-ranked Elks from Centerville at home on Wednesday.
The Reserve team netted 8 goals in defeating Oak Hill on Saturday at John Ankeney Fields. Several players netted more than one goal apiece. In an effort of sportsmenship the team did not attempt to score the second half. Upcoming this week are two important away games with Mason and Centerville. Good luck on the pitch.
In the past week, the girls varsity team took two day (thanks to the lightning) to tie Springboro and traveled to Piqua and picked up a league win in the pouring rain on Wednesday.
Between Saturday and Monday, the Lady Beavers outshot Springboro 20-1, but were unable to find the back of the net, tieing 0-0.
On Wednesday the ladies traveled to Piqua, picking up a win, 3-1. The Beavers picked up all three goals in the first half. Natalie Sedlock scored the first goal, assisted by Rachel Westerkamp. Lexi Ulrich picked up an unassisted goal to put the Beavers up 2-0. Erin Belka finished off the scoring, with the assist going to Lexi Ulrich. Piqua managed to pick up a late goal, as a Creek defender slipped on the wet turf. Beavercreek outshot Piqua 28-7, with most of Piqua’s opportunities coming in the last few minutes of the game.
The 2011 Reserve team remained unbeaten through the first five games of the year. As in most sports contest the defense wins games and the offence sells tickets, but this team is different. They can score and the relentless pressure the midfield applies with the forwards keeps pressure off the D’. It is as much the offence as the defense that has led to the un-scored upon regular season. With Centerville Mason and Sycamore still upcoming the season is far from over. So far the team has rewarded first year coach Josh with a great season. Josh joined the coaching staff and is assisted by long time coach Maggie. The team, parents and community welcome Josh and his family to the area. To recap the scores through Sept 9’th. Creek defeated Bellbrook 1–0, Carroll 1 -0, St. Charles 4–0, Perrysburg 8–0 and Springboro 5–0
